I have just returned from two weeks training at the National Sports Centre in Lilleshall which culminated in the first team selection trials for the World Championships in Tokyo.
My training went really well and we had a control competition on the Wednesday which is similar to what we would experience in Tokyo – I performed very well scoring my highest All Around score since my injury last year. Saturday was another good day but I was down on my All Around score from Wednesday due to some errors on Pbars, Pommel and Floor. On Sunday I put in another solid performance and proved to myself that my consistency is finally returning but still slightly down on my score from Wednesday due to a couple of minor errors.
We have a final trial in two weeks time when we will be competing at the British Championships in Stoke on Trent on the 16th, 17th and 18th of September. After that we have two friendly competitions against two of the best teams in Europe, one against France in France and one against Spain in South Essex before setting off for Tokyo.
Away from Gymnastics I was invited by Corby Council to open a new housing development in Corby that features an Olympic square and street names, named after Olympic athletes including myself. I officially opened Keatings road on Monday 29th August, what an honour!!!!
The next six weeks are going to be really hectic but I am really pleased with my current fitness and form and am really looking forward to Tokyo.
