Blog: Tokyo World Championships

We arrived in Tokyo early on Saturday and I have just completed our first training session today. It is gruelling stuff; we have another one in about half an hour. Over the next couple of days our training will intensify as we get over the jet lag and look ahead to the qualification rounds on Sunday and Monday.

Team GB have been drawn in the second round on Monday and it is the qualification round that will determine if we get a full team to the Olympics in London, so we have to ensure we qualify for the finals within the top eight teams.

Prior to leaving for Japan we competed in two friendly competitions against France, and Spain. In the France competition Team GB put in a very solid performance, narrowly beating a very strong French team 354.75 against 353.05. In the All around competition I placed third behind Daniel Purvis and Arnaud Willig after a fall on Floor and a couple of errors on Pbars and Vault.

Against Spain, Team GB put in another solid performance but we were narrowly pipped to the title by an exceptional performance from Spain – 359.350 against 359.000. In the All around competition I had a very solid performance and claimed the All around title with 91.150 ahead of Rafael Martinez.

The team is feeling really good and we can’t wait for the competition to start.

Cheers, Dan
