On Tuesday 10th January Team GB put the demons from Tokyo behind us and absolutely smashed the London Prepares competition at the O2 Arena, beating France, Spain, Italy, Canada, Brazil, Puerto Rico and Belarus to claim gold. More importantly, we qualified a full team for the London Olympics. This is the first time since 1992 that British Gymnastics has had a full men’s team represented at the Olympics.
Our first apparatus was High Bar and it was hugely important that we got off to a good start as this was where it all went wrong in Tokyo. However, unlike Tokyo we absolutely nailed it with five clean routines. In fact we went on to perform clean routines on every apparatus, apart from a minor error on Rings, and posted a team score of 358.227 – if we had posted this score at the World Championships in Tokyo we would have finished fourth, which is outstanding really considering we had tactically trimmed down our routines for the test event.
