Blog: team GB, European Championships

I thought I would give a quick update on how the preparations are going for the European Championships next week. The selected team is currently staying at the National Sports Centre in Lilleshall for the next 14 days, until after the European Championships in Birmingham.

So far our preparations are going according to plan and this week we should finalise which gymnasts will be competing on each apparatus in the team competition.

Team GB are working hard and really beginning to shape up. There is a good felling throughout the camp, which is largely down to our recent success at a friendly competition in Switzerland on Saturday 10th April.

We were up against Belarus who finished fourth at the last European Team Championships and Switzerland who were seventh. We put on a great team performance and finished two points ahead of Belarus and three ahead of Switzerland in first place. What a result for the team!

Although the mood is high we are conscious that we also made a couple of small errors at the competition, so with an aim to get high scores at the Europeans, there is clearly still room for improvement. But the team is really focused and keen to put on a good performance for a home crowd.

Right, I had better get back to training. Wish us luck and please support Team GB by watching BBC live coverage of the championships, available on BBC Red button starting at 2pm on Saturday 24th April.

Hopefully I will have some great news for you in my next blog!
