Since my last blog and trip to the World Championships in Rotterdam I have been back in the gym training even harder as the performance of the GB men has been a huge inspiration for me to get back to full fitness and back into a very strong GB squad. British gymnastics is in really good health at the moment and all of the other nations around the world are now talking about the strength of the GB men.
The British Championships were also held last weekend in Leicester and I got to train alongside the squad as they prepared for the championships. Daniel Purvis and Sam Hunter continued their good form from the World Championships and had to share the title of British Senior Champion in a competition which failed to split them. As much as I am aware I believe this is the first time the title has ever been shared and really shows the strength of the squad, I will try and find out for my next blog if this is the first time.
The U18 title was claimed by Sam Oldham who is also having a great year and is pushing hard to break into the Senior Squad. On a very positive note it was also really good to see Ashley Watson back from injury and competing on all six apparatus again as Ashley like me also tore his ACL last year and put in a great display to finish 3rd.
Daniel Purvis has continued to impress on the World Stage by winning the Champions trophy only this weekend, a competition I competed in last year. Not only did Dan claim the title but he beat Phillip Boy, Jonathan Horton and Mykola Kuksenkov who finished 2nd , 3rd and 4th at the World Championships. Dan is really starting to make his mark on the world stage and has a very bright future, well done!
Well that’s about it for now….
