The London Men’s Open competition was held at the Goresbrook leisure centre in Dagenham and is one of the first annual competitions after the winter break in a busy competitive season.
Two competitions in two weeks is something I’ve not done in over 8 months and my main target was to improve on my overall score from the Scottish Championships and to continue with my progress of qualifying for the European Championships in Berlin.
The competition was tough and I had a couple of major errors on vault and pommel and a fall on the parallel bars, one of my strongest apparatus, which saw me finish 4th in the all-around. But I still managed to improve my overall score from the Scottish Championships.
My best results came from floor and high bar where I finished 2nd on both apparatus and the pommel horse where I finished 3rd even with a major error, so in general I was pleased with my progress.
This week I am back at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre where we will have our final qualifying competition for the European championships. It’s still going to be tough for me to qualify but I am really going to give it a good go. Fingers crossed and I should find out later this week if I have done enough to clinch one of the spots on the team.
