Blog: London 2012 selection

I am sure most of you would have heard by now but unfortunately I was not selected onto the British Gymnastics team for the London Olympics.

Personally I am hugely disappointed as I had met the selection criteria on so many occasions and by a bigger margin than most of the team but it wasn’t enough in the selection panel’s eyes.

I did appeal against the decision based purely on results but unfortunately it was rejected as they said that they had already considered my results during the selection. I just didn’t fit the team jigsaw.

The last few weeks have been very difficult for me and I have gone through several different emotions but I can now say that I have put it all behind me and that I have turned my disappointment and anger into determination to succeed over the next four years and to look forward to the Olympics in Rio De Janeiro and to prove to the selectors that I should have been in that team.

I am already looking forward to the next Olympic cycle and to some big competitions including the European and World Championships, the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and the World Championships, also in Glasgow in 2015, all before the Olympics in 2016 when I will be 26 and a lot wiser, fitter and stronger.

I would like to personally say THANK YOU to everyone for all their support. This includes all the employees at Opus Energy’s office who I met last month – and those who couldn’t make it – and to my sponsors, friends, family and gymnastics fans from around the world who have sent me so many messages of support and who have helped me to overcome my disappointment and to look forward to a successful future.

I would also like to say that I have nothing against any of the gymnasts who were selected onto the GB team as we are all really close and the best of friends so I would like to ask everyone to get behind the team, as I’ll be doing myself, and give them all the support they deserve and wish them every success in London.

When I was at the Opus Energy offices last month they gave me the thank you cards from the schools that I visited in May, so I’ve also been looking through them to put them in my scrap book. They’re great, so I thought you’d like to see one! There are a few more on my blogspot if you want to see them.

C’MON GB……….

Cheers, Dan
