Blog: heading off to France with the GB team

I am just about to leave within the next hour to catch a ferry to France with GB team for a training camp in preparation for the European Championships. By now you will probably be aware that I have not been included in the team named for the European Championships. Obviously I am slightly disappointed not to be travelling, but after discussions with the GB coaching and medical staff we had decided several weeks ago not to make myself available for selection; this ensures that I received the appropriate treatment for my ankle injury and can focus on making myself available for the Olympic selection without the added pressure of the European Championships. I am training as normal with the rest of the team but it is more important for me to be 100% fit ahead of the Olympic selection rather than risk further injury by pushing myself to compete at the European Championships.

I have, however, added two further competitions to my diary: the Maribor World Cup in Slovenia on the 30th May – 4th June and the Gent World Cup in Belgian on the 6th – 11th June, where I will put my fitness and routines to test ahead of the British Championships and the final selection for the Olympics.

Since my last blog I have spent the last two weeks at Lilleshall, the national sports centre, with the rest of Team GB. I thought I’d send you two more pictures of the most important gym there, and that’s the rehab gym where they put us all back together lol :-)

I would like to wish everyone selected for the European Championships the best of luck :-) and I would really like to see them improve on our team Silver at the European Championships in 2010. C’mon GB!

The team is:
•Louis Smith
•Kristian Thomas
•Ruslan Panteleymanov
•Max Whitlock
•Daniel Purvis
