Blog: Daniel Keatings training in Mexico

After 14 hours travelling we have finally reached our hotel and base for our Great Britain training camp in Cancun, Mexico and guess what…its raining!

The team is here for 14 days as the first part of our preparation for the European Championships in April, which is approaching fast now. It’s really important that we get the balance in the team just right so we can hopefully get on the podium for the first time as a team at the major championships.

This year the European championships and the World Championships are team only competitions, and the Worlds is the first qualification stage for the Olympics in London, so hopefully we will see how far we have progressed as a team.

I have also started my preparations for the Tyson American Cup to be held in Worcester, Massachusetts early March. I hope to be trying out a few new skills I have been working on for the last four weeks. The Tyson American Cup is an All Around competition for invited guests only and for the first time I have been asked to attend – so I am really looking forward to it.

The new offices and rest facilities at the gym in Huntingdon have now also been completed which is really good news as we now have a rest room for the Elite gymnasts only. Before the new building we had to share with the Mother and Tots sessions that come in at lunch times! The next stage is to start building the new gym hall that will be dedicated for Elite Gymnastics but will also give the recreational gymnasts a more fun environment.”

Right, that’s my break over. Back to training. See you in a couple of weeks when the Europeans will be even closer!
