I can now confirm that I will be competing in my first International Competition this weekend at the Gymnastics World Cup in Glasgow.
This year the FIG (Federation of International Gymnastics) have changed the format of its World Cup and Glasgow is one of only four cities hosting the newly revamped All Around competition. Invitations were only sent out to the top eight All Around gymnasts at last year’s World Championships, so you can expect to see really top level gymnastics.
I am fortunate enough to have been offered a wild card slot in the competition, which I have grabbed with both hands. As I was injured during the world championships so didn’t qualify outright. I am really looking forward to it, although I’m also a little bit nervous as it is my first major competition.
So fingers crossed and let’s hope I put on a good show.
I would also like to congratulate Team GB for putting on a really strong show at the Europeans, but especially to Daniel Purvis for claiming his first European All Around medal in Berlin. Dan took joint Bronze with Mykola Kuksenkov, behind Philip Boy – gold – and Flavius Koczi – silver – after putting on an awesome display after two days of solid competition.
You will also see Dan, Phillip and Mykola at the world cup this weekend as they qualified from the World Championships.
