Blog: British Championships

I have just competed in my first British Championships since my ACL injury in April 2009. My preparations ahead of the competition were going really well but I felt nervous going into the competition as the expectation of producing a good result had also increased.

I started on Vault with a new vault and was really pleased to pull it off apart from a small step on my landing scoring 15.90. Next up was Pbars and a very solid routine with minimal errors bagged me the highest score of the day on Pbars with 15.8.

High bar was next but unfortunately I was a bit shaky and only managed to score 14.55 before moving onto floor with a new routine. My new floor routine was going really well until my very last tumble when I landed a little bit short before falling back which cost me dearly scoring 14.00.

Next up was Pommel and again a very solid routine until my final element, the dismount, which saw my start value reduced but I still managed to bag a 15.45 which I was pleased with and left me sitting in third position ahead of my final apparatus Rings. I really needed to put in a solid routine if I wanted to remain within the medals so I increased my difficulty slightly and managed to pull it off with a good routine scoring 14.8 and an overall score of 90.50 to claim the Silver Medal behind Daniel Purvis.

I was really pleased with my overall performance and still have room for improvement but very happy to be back on the Podium at last.

Next week are the two friendly competitions against France and Spain as part of our final preparations for the World Championships in Tokyo.

Cheers, Dan
